Ken and Jo had their school open day. They drew pictures and recited a play as a class. Japanese school life seems very boring to me, with little creativity. The children often just repeat the same line over and over from the text book and the teacher stands at the front 'lecture' style....and hey! They have no mat!!! How can first graders hear their story without the 'mat'?!?! Being a teacher myself, I find it hard not to jump in there and 'spice' it up a little!!! Yawn...They don't do much art either. Only about 10 pieces in the whole year. When Ken and Jo went to school in Aussie for a few months they came home with art work almost every day! I find these open days very boring having to stand there listening to them all. The kids must feel like they are in a zoo with all the parents guawking silently through the windows taking videos. The atmosphere is very stiff and uncomfortable for me!

Ken reading his text...umm..at 10 don't you think he could remember it without looking???? It was only 3 lines!! or at least do something fun with it, like act it out or something?? So he can read from a book...whoopee!
This was nice, some recorder with harmonies! Phew...saved the day!
