On Friday night we went out to the Illumination display in Kobe. This '
Luminarie' was first displayed the year of the
Hanshin Earthquake that blacked out the city and took the lives of around 6,000 people. It was started to bring hope to the people of Kobe and shine light into their darkness. Every year the lights and the theme changes.Last year they said that would be the last year they would do it due to costs, but decided to display it this year as well. We are very glad because we finally got to see it. It finishes on the 17
th of December, so we just made it in time. On a busy night they get around 550,000 people visiting. The night we went there were 309,000 people, including us! They had the streets so well organised we just followed the crowds and got to see it with no pushing and shoving and it was a very peaceful atmosphere. They play beautiful Christmas music as you walk through. It was an amazing experience. Enjoy the photos!

Just before entering the
arcade everyone stops to take pictures so it is a nice time to stand and reflect.

What a wonderful night!

Ken looks super impressed!
Love the photos Renee. It brings back such fond memories of when we went - except it was raining.
It puts the Australian Christmas lights to shame!
what an awesome sight! But what is with the fur round your neck?
Belinda, Ken thought it was 'dumb'!! Thus the 'look'. Jo loved it of course.
